Cowl construction: provisional cast-on, 6 total repeats of pattern. Knit the first 3 repeats on your larger needle and the second 3 repeats on your smaller needle to create a funnel shape. You will join the two ends together to create a double-thick cowl and finish with either a 3-needle bind-off or Kitchener stitch and wear it with the tighter side in so that it stays on your neck without sagging.
This is a great baseline for creating your own designs: just substitute your own charts!
I toyed with the idea of knitting the inside in stripes instead of colorwork – nobody will see it and it won’t take so long!
The cowl itself takes almost 100g of the background color, but lots of leftovers of the contrasting colors, so I made the Nighthawk Skull Cap with it and didn’t have to break into any new balls (except of the main oatmeal color)
Nighthawk Skull Cap pattern can be found in the Shetland Wool Adventures Journal (Vol. 1)

I’m fascinated by Fair Isle Knitting but I’m very allergic to 100% wool so I’m noticing using merino, the stitches are not as nice looking as 100% wool For for in Fair Isle knitting
